The TAC kids took a field trip to the Raptor Center. We toured the back, where we met many eagles, hawks, owls and falcons. We also sat in on a show where we were able to see an American Kestrel, a Barn Owl and a Peregrine Falcon.
We learned many interesting facts- Did you know the Peregrine Falcon is the fastest bird? When diving downward through the air towards food, a Peregrine Falcon can reach speeds up to 200 mph!!! We also learned that the biggest threat to bald eagles right now is lead poisoning by accidentally ingesting pieces of lead bullets left by hunters. The best way to prevent this is for hunters to use copper bullets.
Back at TLC, children had the opportunity to use a variety of craft supplies and their creativity to make their own birds.
